Greg Fraser
studied drawing and painting at the Ontario College of Art, and fine arts at the University of Guelph
exhibited his paintings in several solo and juried group shows
studied jazz composition and theory
played in bands, built a recording studio, composed and recorded electronic music
first experience in the gem/jewellery world was that of a “bag carrier” for Mo Ying at gem shows; had only a passing interest in gemstones until a chance meeting with an Australian opal dealer at a Hong Kong show in 1994; became mesmerized by opals, and a year later began buying rough opal for cutting and polishing
has since branched out to cut and carve a variety of materials, finding that general aesthetic principles can be easily transported from painting to music to gem carving
